Toowoomba, QueenslanD, Australia
where I attended an International Peace Conference in August. I have great hopes for the Continent of Oceania, having met many from Indonesia, Singapore, New Zealand, many other islands as well as my new friends in Australia. Perhaps Toowoomba will rise as a mentor and beacon of the City of Peace ideal — when communities birth peace themselves. The 46 million people of Oceania will thrive with the acknowledgement that they are truly in charge of their own safety, prosperity and quality of life. Outside influences, however seemingly benevolent, cannot export peace. It must come from the inside, from people who live within a community that have the knowledge, talent, and motivation for continuous practical improvement. I am thankful that International Cities of Peace is not a colonial “power”. We only have one gift: respect. My appreciation to Ms. Uma Kumar and family of Heartfulness, Mr. Haniff Abdul Razak of the Pure Land College, the entire City of Peace Team, as well as Mayor Geoff MacDonald, Mr. Shannon Bauwens of the Aboriginal community of Gummingurru, and all the others who gave me such an honor. Giving Thanks.
